Comets place 3rd at season-opening Decorah Fall Girls Wrestling Tournament

DECORAH — The Charles City Comets placed third out of a field of 16 teams while opening the season at the Decorah High School Fall Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.

With 171 team points, the Comets were bested by Cedar Falls (335) and runner-up Decorah (240) while finishing more than 40 team points ahead of fourth-place Crestwood.

Charles City senior Destiny Kolheim, who is in her fourth season with the Comet girls program, went undefeated with four fall victories while claiming the 155-pound bracket for her team’s lone title.

Charles City had a pair of runner-up wrestlers: Sophia Calpito was 3-1 in the 105-pound bracket; Kylie Blunt went 2-1 in the 140-pound bracket.

Other Comet wrestlers who recorded victories and scored points included Alexuz Ohlendorf, who went 3-2 and placed fourth in the 110-pound bracket; Emma Schmitt, who went 3-2 and placed fourth in the 115-pound bracket; Tegan Cavanaugh, who went 2-2 in the 120-pound bracket; Edie Collins, who went 4-3 and placed sixth in the 125-pound bracket; Nya Nosbisch, who went 2-2 and placed fourth in the 135-pound bracket; Braelynn Painter, who went 1-2 in the 170-pound bracket; and Reagen Patrie, who went 1-2 in the 190-pound bracket.
