Charles City girl wrestlers place 4th at Battle of Waterloo

WATERLOO — The Charles City girls wrestling team placed second in its Megan Black Bracket and fourth behind champion Waverly-Shell Rock, Crestwood (2nd) and Osage (3rd) in the subsequent championship bracket during the Battle of Waterloo, held Dec. 17-19 at Young Arena.

Comet senior Kaylee Hennick went undefeated during the tournament while recording four fall victories in the 106-pound division.

Charles City junior Lilly Luft, a state champion at 126 last season, had three fall victories while wrestling at 132.

Comet veteran Elizabeth Oleson had three quick fall victories while battling at 138.

Destiny Kolheim, out for wrestling for the first time this season, had three fall victories while wrestling at 160 and 170 for Charles City.

Alexis Ver Meer (113), Morgan Maloy (152) and Jamaria Foster (285) all had fall victories for the Comets last weekend in Waterloo.

The Charles City boys wrestling team placed fourth out of eight teams in its Sorenson Bracket and fourth in pool.

Comet senior Tino Tamayo had three fall victories while wrestling at 220.

Trevor Peterson had three wins including two fall victories at 170; Nathan Lopez had three wins including a fall and major decision at 138; Colton Anderegg had two wins including a fall victory at 160; Jordan Young had two wins with a fall victory at 113; Talan Weber had a fall victory at 145; Colton Crooks had a fall victory at 152; and Carter Burkhardt had a fall victory at 182 for Charles City.

Waverly-Shell Rock won the championship bracket ahead of Don Bosco (2nd) and West Delaware (3rd).
