Donna Holtz

Donna Holtz, 70, of Charles City, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.

A funeral service for Donna will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City with Pastor Wendy Johannesen officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Rudd. The family invites everyone back to the Charles City VFW for a continued celebration of Donna’s life after the burial.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the start of the service on Friday at Hauser Weisshaar Funeral Home.

Donna Marie (Weigel) Holtz, the daughter of Donald and Vielena (Caihaar) Weigel, was born on July 16, 1953, in Charles City. She attended and graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Charles City. She then attended Buena Vista University obtaining an associate’s degree in accounting. After college, she was employed at an office in Charles City as one of the first female loan officers in Iowa. While working there, Donna met her soulmate, Douglas “Doug” Holtz. The two were together for a total of 51 years and were married for 30 of those at a friend’s house along the Cedar River in Charles City on June 25, 1994. After the ceremony, Donna and Doug took a horse drawn carriage to the VFW for their reception.

Donna worked at Hy-Vee for many years and was a Scentsy Consultant. After retirement, she worked seasonally at Bluhm’s Greenhouse. Donna volunteered as a delivery person for Meals on Wheels. She was an amazing cook and best known for her potato salad, chicken and chili. Donna loved to bowl, tend to her garden, collect Kim Anderson and Betty Boop figurines, and enjoyed making bouquets for weddings. Donna was incredibly lucky, having won the lottery twice and enjoying spending time at the casinos.

She is survived by her loving husband, Doug Holtz; daughters: Sheri (Steve) Hanlon of Vista, California, Lori Holtz of Charles City, and Annette Holtz of Charles City; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and nephew, Scott Ross.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Vielena Weigel; daughter, Angela “Angie” Kramer; sister, Cheryl Biddle; brother, Terry Weigel; nephew, Brian Ross; and niece, Tina Ross.
