Richard Anthony ‘Rick’ Perez

Richard Anthony “Rick” Perez, 79, went to heaven on Dec. 10, 2021. Rick was born in Los Angeles, CA on July 20, 1942.

The son of Joseph and Jane Perez, Rick was the 2nd oldest of six children. He attended Loyola High School as a three sport athlete and El Camino College in Los Angeles. After a brief time with the Dallas Cowboys, he enlisted in the US Army where he spent two years in Vietnam as a medic.

In 1968, Rick returned to the states and relocated to Atlanta, GA where he met Karen Whitley on a blind date. They were married three weeks later and celebrated their 53rd anniversary in February.

Rick enjoyed a career in Sales and Marketing that led to numerous moves for the family (GA, SC, CA, OH and MI) before settling in Charles City in 1979. He retired from Diversified Fastening Systems in 2009.

Rick was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling and cooking for his family. He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church.

Rick is survived by his wife, Karen Perez; son, Cary (Dena) Perez; daughter, Niki (Tony) Perez; grandchildren: Whitley (Chase) Sander, Kailee McDonald, Emma Perez and Riley Perez; and great grandson, Jack Richard Sander.

A funeral mass will be held Monday, Dec. 20 at 4 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Perez home.
