Kids learn about vintage games at Floyd County Museum

It was fun and games at the Floyd County Museum on Saturday, April 13, as a dozen children visited for a new kids program.
Volunteer Becky Meyer presented the program, demonstrating the kind of vintage toys and games that kids played with in generations past. From spinning tops to pick-up-sticks, Meyer explained how children entertained themselves in the days before television and smart devices.
“It’s meant to teach kids about history in a fun and interactive way,” said Museum Director Mckenna Lloyd.
Along with a demonstration of vintage toys, the group also took a tour of the museum, showing the kids how children behaved in the historic general store or what life was like living in a log cabin.
The kids program is new to the museum and Lloyd says she would like to see it done a few times a year with different historical themes.
“We’re hoping to do it seasonally,” said Lloyd.
In the meantime, upcoming programming for the museum includes a Chautauqua Talk about Floyd County Pioneers this Saturday, April 20.
The museum is also accepting donations for its annual rummage sale scheduled for next Saturday, April 27.
