Press Staff Report

Area firefighters responded to a barn fire Tuesday evening, Feb. 20, shuttling water to fight the flames.

Charles City, Floyd and Colwell departments were dispatched about 10:45 p.m. to a farm in the 2600 block of 215th Street, south of Charles City.

“Prior to arrival we were advised that the structure was a barn with flames seen coming from inside,” the Charles City department reported on its Facebook page. “Once on scene crews observed a large amount of hay stored in the loft of the barn and flames showing from multiple sides of the structure.”

The first firefighters to arrive were able to knock the flames down while additional crews arrived with more water.

The Charles City department reported it was on the scene for about 2½ hours.

The department thanked mutual aid partners Floyd Fire and Colwell Fire for the assistance.

AMR ambulance and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
